Ana Roldán-Riejos

Ana Roldán-Riejos (PhD) is an Associate Professor in the Department Applied Linguistics for Science and Technology at ETSI Caminos, Canales y Puertos. Technical University of Madrid (UPM). She focuses her research activities on the study of scientific and technical language in the academic and professional engineering contexts from a cognitive linguistics approach.

Career history

BA Seville University; PhD Madrid Complutense University; Superior Diploma of Translation Specialist Madrid Complutense University. She has taught and researched on English for Specific Purposes, in particular English for engineers, for several decades. She has supervised and evaluated various doctoral theses in Spain and abroad. In her publications, she analyses engineering communication and cognitive linguistics in an interdisciplinary way, serving as a regular reviewer for specialised journals such as Iberica, RESLA and IJES (International Journal for English Studies). She has been an active member in various university-funded research projects, addressing the role of tutorials for engineering students; and has collaborated in special integrated actions between UK (Imperial College) and Spanish institutions. Ana has been a Visiting Researcher at the Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication in Imperial College of London for a semester in 2014, and currently leads the research group DISCYT in UPM, since 2010. This group carries out innovative linguistic projects funded by various institutions.
