She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Technical University of Madrid related to her main research areas focusing on aeronautical discourse, metaphor and metonymy in science, and cognitive linguistics. |

Career history
She has taught at the School of Aeronautical Engineering at the UPM for more than 25 years. She has been involved in several research projects in relation with Spanish aviation companies and with the UPM’s process of internationalization. She has led a research project related to metaphor, has published several research articles in JCR journals and has participated in European workshops and conferences on Linguistics and on Education for engineers in Spain and Europe. She has published several book chapters, articles and papers in the Proceedings on national and international conferences. Mª del Mar is currently Subdirector of the Department of Linguistics Applied to Science and Technology at the Technical University of Madrid
