María-José Gómez-Ortiz

María-José Gómez-Ortiz (PhD) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics Applied to Science and Technology at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Her main research interests are English for Specific Purposes, English as lingua franca in academic settings, Discourse Analysis and Pragmatics.

Career history

She holds a PhD in English Linguistics from the UPM (Madrid). She has taught English for Sports Sciences for more than 16 years. She is a co-author of the Bilingual Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Metaphors and Metonymies Spanish-English/English-Spanish. She is a member of the research group DISCYT in UPM, with various projects that have been funded by official institutions. She has been appointed examiner in three doctoral theses and has participated in university-funded innovation projects. Currently, Mª Jose is leading a project related to the implementation of a bilingual academic programme (English-Spanish) in the Sports Science Faculty (Technical University of Madrid).
