Irina Argüelles-Álvarez

Irina Argüelles-Álvarez (PhD) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics for Science and Technology at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Her main research areas focus on language teaching, acquisition and testing, and the integration of technologies to enhance motivation in learning.

Career history

She teaches English for Professional and Academic Purposes at the School of Engineering and Telecommunication Systems (UPM). She has coordinated and participated in more than 20 university-funded innovation and research projects and has supervised 5 master theses (2014, 2015) and more than 20 Degree Final Projects. She was a Visiting Researcher in Leeds University for a four-month period in 2010 at The Language Centre (School of Modern Languages and Cultures). She currently leads the Multidisciplinary Innovation Group in UPM, with various projects on learning and technologies and co-directs the Acquisition and Learning Panel in AESLA Annual Conferences. Her research areas include Language Teaching and Learning, and Discourse Analysis. Irina has published over 50 articles in specialist journals and in the proceedings of international conferences.
